Chronically Eli K.

Updated: Sep 4, 2020

Welcome to the 1st ever story time with me, Eli K.

Oh how I love a good story. So I thought why not provide a name and space for me to not only tell my stories but hopefully share some of your stories as well.

I titled this Chronically Eli K. because if you’ve learned anything about me through my blog, it’s that I am habitually and unapologetically myself, so here we go!

Kids can love their teacher!

”Hi, second mommy!”

One Friday I’m driving with my family in the car headed upstate. All of sudden I get a call from a phone number. I recognize the number but the school day is over and I don’t feel like answering it.

Plus, it’s a Friday. I don’t know one teacher in his or her right mind that would have wanted to answer that phone call...on Friday...after school hours.

Anyway, I ignored the call, talking smack to my mother and sisters while I did so. You know the whole “Uh uh. I ain’t answering that. I’m off of work. Y’all folk need to learn how to leave me alone.” Seeing a black screen again I return to my conversation family. Not 30 seconds later the phone rings again. Same number.

So now I’m like “aww shoot. There must be an emergency if this parent is calling back to back.” So I hush my passengers and put the phone on speaker.

“Hello?”

“Hello?”

“Hi!”

“Hi, second mommy!”

My passengers snicker.

“Shawn?”

“Yes.”

“Does your mother know you have her phone?”

“No.”

“That’s what I thought. Are you okay, Shawn?”

“Yeah.”

“You just calling me to say hi?”

“Yeah.”

I laugh because I can’t help it.

“Alright, Shawn I have to go. I’m driving. Make sure you give your mother back her phone. Have a good weekend and I’ll see you Monday.”

“Okay. Bye.”

All the occupants of the car breakout in to laughter. Including myself.

I proceed to tell my family about this particular student and how he considers me to be his second mom. It was such a cute and memorable moment for me especially as an educator.

The End

Your Turn:

With each passing week, I hope you‘ll join me in sharing your stories. Feel free to share your story based on the topic through email or my dms. If you wish to share, be sure to use discretion and no cussing. The hilarity of life can be captured without it.

Remember, Rant Irresponsibly!

Eli K. Out!
